Two pictures

The weather was beautiful yesterday and I took a few photos. Here are two. The first one is of a flower, which perhaps someone can name for me. The second one is of a bulbul (I think) that was sitting in a tree nearby as a colleague and I had lunch in the little park next to the university.

I believe the flower is 'beautifus badaunticus' from the iris family, but I could be wrong.
When are you getting your flickr account? Perhaps I shouldn't encourage you. I've been consumed by flickr every since spring hit, and I've nearly disappeared from blogging. In fact, I'm not sure I know how to read any more, but I DO know great pictures now, and yours are always the tops!

It's a wild iris, isn't it..they look like this and they bloom for a short time in early spring...of course spring here was 4 inches of snow this a.m., but some folks get wild iris...they're this color and all. Iris is my favorite flower. Guess how many I got for my 63rd birthday?!

The flower is an iris named "Lace Handkerchief". There's another picture here:

Writer Mom: I DO (or at least DID) have a Flickr account (a free one) that I started to put up my Europe trip photos. Trouble is I put them up indiscriminately, and it isn't very interesting. I haven't touched it for months, and can't find the url, but probably a search on Badaunt will find it. Maybe. If it's still there.

Kenju: I think I knew it was an iris (but had forgotten) - as soon as I read this I thought "OF COURSE! DUMMY!" - but I don't think I would have remembered without your prodding. I am useless with flower names.

Wikkachicky: I found it down by the little river, hidden in the weeds. That made it all the more lovely.

Kay: SNOW? Still? How wonderful. I know I shouldn't say that, but you must remember how it felt to look forward to the rainy season...

Cheryl: Thank you. :-) That's why I posted it.

Lynn: What a wonderful name! I didn't know that. I see from the link that it is also called 'roof iris' because it used to be found growing on thatched roofs in Japan and China. I guess it is wild, then. It didn't look like it was cultivated, down by the river, although you never know, here.
